So, how about this....
Many people are put off having braces by images of Ugly Betty and being teased in the playground....so they tolerate their wonky teeth for life.
At York Place Dental we find that when we ask "What, if money was no object, would you do to change your smile?", the most common answers are:
1. I'd straighten my crooked teeth...
2. And then I'd have them whitened!
Yesterday we fitted a lingual brace to one of our patients. All the wires are there, but hidden round the back...a bit like this:
So theres no need to be self conscious anymore, and they're just as effective!
If you are one of those people, why not come and have a free assessment with one of our team?
We're also adding complimentary home whitening on all braces until the end of June!
Why not get in touch?

This is why we do it....
Thank you to one of our lovely patients for this short but heartfelt email! Getting this sort of feedback reminds us all of the potential impact of good cosmetic dental care...
Hi....I'm really excited... but also nervous of having to wear the braces - I'll be very self concious for a while...but I have wanted to be able to smile with my mouth opened for a long time and instead of just dreaming and thinking about it I'm finally just going to go for it....and I'm over the moon that you will be doing it for me....thank you very much
Big Smiles all round :-)
Have you got crooked teeth? Why don't you email us a photo on info@yorkplacedental.com and we'll tell you what could be done....

Staying ahead of the Game
Richard and Andy were last spotted this morning heading south to the NEC for one of the biggest events in the dental calendar - The Dentistry Show. Live dentistry, trade stands, international speakers and several thousand people mixing it up under one roof....
Whilst our Dental Therapist Sarah Jane and the team are running the show in Carlisle, Richard will no doubt have been looking at bright shiny toys to buy, and Andy as The Man With The Purse Strings will no doubt be telling him not to be so daft...which is as it should be.
There's a serious side to it all as well. Dentistry is booming, dental technology is changing fast and the boundaries of the possible shift with lightning speed. As one of Cumbria's leading providers of state of the art dental care, we strive to stay ahead of the game.
Richard has often said that a dentist has to constantly relearn his skills - what he knew in 1988 when he graduated is now decidedly old hat...So as Tony once said, it's all about education, education, education....
Our team have established links with a wide network of businesses and organisations nationally, and days like these are a golden opportunity to hear the best speakers, meet our friends and colleagues, and select the best equipment materials and techniques to bring to you, our patients.
Let's see what he says when he gets back to the Office on Monday...and we're worried about what he might have bought....
Have a great weekend - looks like spring's arrived!

Thank you from the team at YPD
I'd like to share the written comments of a York Place Dental patient with you, handed in today. You know I can't share the patients' name, but they know who they are.
I'd like to thank them in public, because this means so much to all of us.
"From the first consultation with Richard and the team, I knew I had picked the right dental practice. Richard listened
We discussed what I wanted. Richard told me what I needed to be done and then incorporated into the treatment plan everything I had asked for (and more)!
I have never, in fifty years of dentist treatments, experienced such painfree, relaxed treatment. What a wonderful thing the mouth guard is! The trouble taken to explain everything and the care taken to produce the result I have was amazing. It is very obvious that Richard is passionate about his work and he and his team really strive to give you the best.
Richard took away my old mismatched, discoloured, silver and broken smile and gave me a lovely white sparkly new smile.
I haven't smiled so much in years..."
Imagine how you would feel if someone said something like this to you about what you do in your walk of life. I was, and will remain, humbled when I was shown this today. And it would not have been possible without having a truly remarkable team of people around me.

A great smile just trying to get out....
Sometimes we say things that can cause so much damage. Mostly, it's not intentional, but the damage is so real. In dental care, its as true as in any other walk of life. Here's a story.
A nervous young lady came to see me recently. She was new to York Place, came on a recommendation. Her last dentist had told her that she "had the mouth of a 50 year old".
But she's in her 20's....
She thought she had gum disease and was going to lose her teeth. She was a very worried lady.
We checked her for health. OK, she had a few damaged teeth, and her gums bled because she had some plaque on her teeth. There were some food stains and some tar stains from her recently - ceased smoking habit.
But that was it.
- Her gums can be fixed - we will show her how.
- Her teeth can be fixed.
- She's going to look GREAT and she has an excellent dental future.
....and the team can help to keep her like that with her own mouth care program.
She's now a lot happier, and we undid something that was careless and untrue. I so hope that we don't make the same mistake...
Has anything like this ever happened to you? Let us know....

A Cure for sensitive teeth?
Working with small whitish bits of peoples anatomy can be profoundly rewarding, and occasionally extremely frustrating. Luckily, technology moves on, and last year's impossibility becomes this years hot treatment...
Lasers, titanium implants, tooth whitening, ceramic veneers all make the headlines and occupy the column inches and lifestyle shows.
A less sexy topic is tooth sensitivity. Most people suffer from it a bit, a few suffer a lot. Medicated toothpastes, care with diet and good mouth hygiene is usually enough, but there are a sizeable number of people out there who have a severe problem, and nothing seems to work.
In particular, their tooth sensitivity makes their hygiene appointments a time of dread, their sweaty palms and fingers digging into the armrests of the dental chair. Sadly, its often precisely these people who need the most intensive hygienist support. Its all very well being offered a local anaesthetic - but surely there must be alternative?
Enter Remesense.
Some of you may remember a similar product called Savodent, which was sadly discontinued. This is pretty much the same stuff.
We've tried it on some our most sensitive patients in a totally non scientific trial, and it does seem to work where other products haven't. A ten minute gel application at home in a special gum shield can provide at least two week's protection.
Which means:
Comfort when eating.
Comfort when drinking.
and importantly comfort when visiting your hygienist or dentist.
Click the link below and ask your dentist next time you're visiting.

We have no commercial interest in this product, this information is intended to relieve pain and misery!
